Found my first one along a walking path in the woods of a college campus. It was a bit beat up, but worked. That was around 1995. I bought a couple more in the next few years. It never occurred to me to buy ahead since it seemed to be the ideal mechanical pencil -- how could Sanford possibly discontinue such a great product?! Alas ... I am using my last one, glued and taped at the barrell joint. I just found this website today, after a brief phone conversation with Sanford that simply sent me to an unsatisfying perusal of the options on the Papermate products website. The Alvin Draf/tec looks promising. It's the best pencil I ever owned, to be sure. He gave me the last one he had, after seeing how impressed I was by its quality. I'm keeping it safe now.
