Roller disco

I can't remember the last time I went roller skating. With the Roller Derby canceled, some friends and I decided to head over to the Redwood City Roller Rink for "disco skate". I did surprisingly well. I didn't fall once. I was hoping to catch one of my friends spread eagle on video but alas they managed to stay on their feet the whole night. The rink was more sparse than I had anticipated which made keeping one's balance even easier. I can't wait to go back. I'll probably wait until the blisters on my feet heal thought. The people who work there have a great personality. I had myself a fair style pickle and a blueberry slushie. Yup, this was a good night.

12 Galaxies

After En Vogue I zipped over to 12 Galaxies. The extra action marching band was playing there and they did not disappoint. The place was so packed that I found myself standing on the seat of my chair to get a glimpse of what was going on. While I was standing there, girls were walking over the front of my chair after having made their way past Shannon's chair, making their way over the table top next to me, heading toward to the other end of the bar.

We were poised precariously on our chair perch near the back of the bar. People were slipping out of the crown to the back of the bar where we were and at one point threatened to knock us on our heads. Everyone had a friendly demeanor and I couldn't help but feel like I was back on the playa. The girl next to me was slipping on and off her perch atop her stool. Apparently her short term memory was shot because she must have thanked me a half dozen times for for helping her negotiate her stance atop her seat. It was so packed that we weren't sure where the band was going to play. I imagined that the girls would take the stage and that the band would find there way into the middle of the bar, though I had no idea how. Suddenly, I felt a rhythmic pounding on the ground. There was a drum playing and people were accenting the rhythm with their foot. Energy (and sweat) filled the small room as the band eased their way into the already packed room. By the time they started in with Black Chicken, the mood in the was filled with positivity. I'm not sure how the tuba player kept people's heads out of his instrument or even how he went through the crowd without braining someone along the way. I'm suspect that this band was made up of mortal men and women but from the way they controlled the mood in the place, I'm not completely certain.

I shook hands with Frank and wished him a happy birthday. As silly as it seems that was one of the highlights of my night. Thank you Frank.
